Week 4 · Building the AI Org

Building the AI Org

After this week you will be able to structure your teams for AI, assign clear executive ownership, and make smart early hires. Two concepts: the evolving Chief AI Officer, and the Leadership-Lab-Crowd operating model. The CAIO has shifted from a symbolic visionary running proofs of concept into an operational orchestrator who scales safe, cross-functional workflows. Structurally you need leadership to set incentives, the crowd (all employees) to discover use cases, and a small specialized lab of experts and developers to productize the best ones. Example: stand up a centralized AI Center of Excellence for your first two lighthouse projects, pairing an AI product manager who owns the outcome with someone who designs the interaction flows. Boardroom action: present an AI Operating Model charter that assigns C-suite accountability, names the first three experts to pull into your internal AI lab, and defines the adoption metrics they will track.
